I am Zoran Kostic brom Bosnia. I lived in Bangldesh for three years and have got married to local christian girl through baptist church ceremony. We are now in Bosnia and we want to settle here and get our marriage status solved. Since Bosnia doesn't recognize religious marriages we have to register to government body but for this purpose my wife needs unmarried certificate. Bangladesh High Commissions are not willing to cooperate so only way to get this certificate is directly from government office in Dhaka. We are unable to come in Bangladesh, so the question is is there any legal way to obtain unmarried certificate without being physical present in dhaka. Can we appoint somebody in Bangladesh by sending letter of authorization from Bosnia? Since we have got married in Baptist church, we have church certificate and affidavit from notary public. We didn't get any government marriage certificate. In the time our marriage was solemnized we didn't know nor couldn't find the person who can explain legal background of getting government marriage certificate or is this possible for christians at all (sinc there is some legal background we found latter "christian marriage act 1872". Our main concern is how to get unmarried certificate. Is our marriage treated legally in Bangladesh or not?

Collection of unmarried certificate takes 2-3 months from District Commissioner after police verification and all other procedure. For application to the DC, Bride's mother or father needs to make an affidavit on behalf of their daughter but main application must be signed by the person who wants the certificate. what you can do is we can prepare all documents here and send those to you to sign and you mail us back after signing. And rest of the work we can done for you. So in that case power of attorney is not necessary. And also presence in Dhaka for this is not necessary.
