If any child's mother died in childhood, can the children stay with his mother's family?I mean to say that if the child wish not to stay with his father,can he/she go to his/her grandmother or aunt?

Father is natural guardian and he have to bear his child's expenses. But the child can stay with grandmother/aunt as they will be the child's custodian.
